Hepatitis C is a virus which infects the liver. The NHS is aiming for hepatitis C elimination by 2025, by testing for and treating the virus using highly effective, easy to take tablet medications that reduce liver cancer and liver failure risk. You can either have a test through your GP or arrange for a home test.
Testing through your GP
The East Anglian hepatitis C team are working in collaboration with GP practices to offer a free, simple screen for hepatitis C. GP practices are contacting patients who may be at risk of hepatitis C by text messaging to offer the opportunity of a hepatitis C test at their practice. Appointments are booked via GP systems. A dedicated hepatitis C GP and/or nurse from the Cambridge Addenbrooke’s Hospital team will run the clinics in the practice. Collaborating practices include:
- Abbeyfield Medical Centre
